Charu S. Smith
B.A. (Hons), LL.B.
Charu was born and raised in Kitchener-Waterloo. She earned her Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology and Sociology with a minor in French Studies, from the University of Toronto, where she graduated with academic distinction. Charu pursued her law degree at the University of Windsor, and obtained her LL.B. in 2009. While attending law school, Charu was actively involved with the Family Law Project through the Pro Bono Students Association and worked as a caseworker at the University of Windsor Mediation Clinic. Charu also had the opportunity to travel to Chicago to compete in the 8th Annual International Law School Mediation Tournament, where her team enjoyed great success.
Charu summered and articled with Giesbrecht, Griffin, Funk & Irvine and was pleased to continue working with the firm as an associate lawyer following her call to the Bar in June, 2010. Charu’s legal practice focuses primarily on family law and she also practises in the areas of civil litigation, employment law, wills and powers of attorney, estate administration, and residential real estate. Charu has a particular interest in Alternative Dispute Resolution.
Charu is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and the Waterloo Law Association. She enjoys reading, travelling, and spending time outdoors.
Charu currently resides in Kitchener with her husband.
