The Associate will work on a broad range of files, including estate planning, estate administration and real estate matters.

Experience:

Support Staff

Giesbrecht, Griffin, Funk & Irvine LLP is currently seeking applications for a Human Resources Generalist to cover a 12-month Maternity Leave. The primary purpose of the position is to provide support to the firm and the candidate will be required to aid in planning, organizing, directing, controlling and evaluating the operations of the Human Resources functions within the firm. GGFI prides itself on providing a friendly and collegial environment and a competitive compensation package including benefits.

 

Duties:

The duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive personnel records.
  • Assist in the recruitment, selection, onboarding and training processes.
  • Prepare formal communications to employees.
  • Perform weekly payroll for 38-45 employees (ADP).
  • Prepare a variety of payroll related documents such as a ROE and T4, and answer any payroll questions or concerns.
  • Help develop and manage employment programs, salary compensation and job evaluations, promotions and training programs.
  • Support partners through the performance process.
  • Ensure the accuracy of preliminary payroll reports, time sheets and spreadsheets.
  • Adhere to all applicable federal and provincial regulations and firm policies.
  • Manage benefits administration 38-45 employees incl. employee questions, new enrollment, changes.
  • Plan and implement social events for staff.
  • Co-chair the JHSC and manage inspections.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Human Resources Diploma or Degree required
  • CHRP or PCP designation, or working towards it
  • Experience with payroll systems preferred (ADP)
  • 2-3 years of HR experience
  • Solid understanding of employment legislation
  • Excellent time management, organizational and prioritization skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team within tight timelines
  • High accuracy of data entry
  • Ability to multi-task and take initiative
  • Proven ability to build strong relationships
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Great attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Comfortable in a fast paced environment

This position is a part-time position. This position would start on August 31st, 2020.

Carriage over Small Claims Court and Landlord and Tenant Board files allows students the opportunity to interact with clients, firm lawyers, opposing counsel, as well as the judiciary, and to gain invaluable hands-on legal experience. Our students appear before such judicial bodies as the Ontario Human Rights Commission, Provincial Offences Court, Small Claims Court, the Landlord and Tenant Board, motions and assignment court for the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, and arbitrations.
