Professional Focus

Manuela is a proud Latin American, born in Colombia, but raised in the Kitchener-Waterloo Region. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts from the University of Waterloo before obtaining her JD from Lincoln Alexander School of Law. In addition to English, Manuela speaks fluent Spanish.

 

During her time at Lincoln Alexander School of Law, Manuela was the President of the Latin American Law Students’ Association. She participated in the Refugee Law Clinic and the first ever Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Law Moot. She also participated in Pro-Bono Students Canada and completed a placement at Justice for Children and Youth where she worked under the Childhood Arrivals Support and Advocacy (CASA) Program to provided legal support for youth with no or precarious immigration status.

Manuela was pleased to join GGFI Law LLP as an associate lawyer in 2024, after working with the GGFI team as both a summer student, placement student, and an articling student during the course of her legal studies. Manuela practices in the areas of civil litigation, Wills and Powers of Attorney, and Immigration and Refugee law.

 

Community Involvement

Manuela is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Waterloo Law Association, Canadian Hispanic Bar Association and is on the board of directors for oneROOF Youth Services, assisting youth at risk of homelessness in the Waterloo Region.
