Why Consider Waterloo Region?

Kitchener lies at the heart of Waterloo Region, a fast-growing metropolitan area of nearly 500,000 only an hour's drive from Toronto. Home to two universities (Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier) and one college (Conestoga), top-notch cultural amenities such as the Centre in the Square and the famous annual Oktoberfest celebrating the area's German heritage, "K-W" combines the affordability, charm and lifestyle of a mid-size community with the business and career opportunity of a larger center, offering the best of both worlds.

The Student Experience

GGFI Law LLP offers a wide spectrum of legal experiences for students pursuing either summer or articling positions. The GGFI Law experience includes exposure to such areas as Civil Litigation, Family Law, Wills and Estates, Real Estate & Corporate/Commercial transactions.

When working with our barristers, students will attend arbitrations and have carriage over Small Claims Court and Landlord and Tenant Board files, which will allow them the opportunity to interact with clients, opposing counsel, as well as the judiciary, each of which allows students to gain invaluable hands-on legal experience. Our students also appear before judicial bodies such as the Ontario Human Rights Commission, Provincial Offences Court, and the Ontario Superior Court of Justice.

When working with our solicitors, students will gain valuable experience drafting and reviewing contracts, such as partnership agreements, shareholders’ agreements, privacy policies, commercial leases, and real estate agreements of purchase and sale. Our students will also assist with large asset and share purchases of businesses, incorporating new companies including professional corporations, reorganizations of existing corporate share structures, and working with charitable organizations, including making applications to the Charities Directorate of Canada Revenue. Students will be a part of client meetings and strategic planning sessions with clients, brokers and accountants.
